Navigating the complex, interconnected systems of higher education.

Time to read: ~2 minutes

Project Background

While migrating between Content Management Systems, The OSU Business College brought in my team to overhaul their site’s usability and visual identity in an effort to make it easier for current students to navigate and more enticing for prospects.

Challenges

  • A majority of the content was final, creating design limitations.

  • Primary navigation was busy and unfocused.

  • The Program Finder was outdated, limiting exploration for students and prospects which stemmed site conversions.

Solutions

  • We reorganized the information from the primary navigation into distinct sections based on target audiences.

  • Gave each audience distinct visual markers repeated throughout the site.

  • We rebuilt the Program finder from scratch- modernizing its functionality and integrating it with the site.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in conceptualizing the initial design exploration into color usage and font selection.

  • Create nuanced visual cues to differentiate between dynamic content pages like Blogs and Faculty Profiles. Integrate those cues across interactive elements and page layouts.

  • Oversee the design of a net-new Program Finder, using modern information design techniques.

  • Design a contextual secondary navigation to reduce information overload on relevant pages.

  • Ensure feature feasibility through regular check-ins with Development teams.
