Navigating the complex, interconnected systems of higher education.Time to read: ~1.5 minutes
Project Background
While migrating between Content Management Systems, OSU brought on the East Coast Catalyst team to overhaul their site’s usability and visual identity.
Challenges
- A majority of the content was final, creating design limitations.
- Primary navigation was busy and unfocused.
- The Program Finder was outdated, limiting exploration for students and prospects which stemmed site conversions.
Solutions
- We reorganized the information from the primary navigation into distinct sections based on target audiences.
- Gave each audience distinct visual markers repeated throughout the site.
- We rebuilt the Program finder from scratch- modernizing its functionality and integrating it with the site.
Responsibilities
- Assist in conceptualizing the initial design exploration into color usage and font selection.
- Create nuanced visual cues to differentiate between dynamic content pages like Blogs and Faculty Profiles. Integrate those cues across interactive elements and page layouts.
- Oversee the design of a net-new Program Finder, using modern information design techniques.
- Design a contextual secondary navigation to reduce information overload on relevant pages.
- Ensure feature feasibility through regular check-ins with Development teams.
